I have followed Bonnie Gray over at FaithBarista for a few years, and loved her first book, “Finding Spiritual Whitespace”. In her second publication, “Whispers of Rest,” she continues her theme of finding spiritual rest. I’ve posted a short review on Amazon and in Goodreads. (Review actually in comments below, I could not get the link to work properly…)

The journey to true spiritual growth is never easy for anyone, regardless of their story. Bonnie is honest about her experiences in life, and the result of that growth process is evident here. Having followed Bonnie’s blog, FaithBarista, for some time, her voice resonates with me. For those who would say that this book is not “deep enough,” I would reply that the reader will take away as much as they put into it. Scripturally based, this devotional redirects the reader to prayer time. Prayers are written, but if one truly immerses themselves in the purpose of the book, these prayers are a guide to your own conversation with God. As long as I have been a Christian, I still feel so immature in this department. When life hits me full force, I am too quick to anger and vent frustration when I should be hitting my knees in thanks and asking for God’s guidance. (Or too reluctant to be quiet and listen…)
If one truly uses this book in the manner it is intended, it will change your life perspective. I honestly feel this is a timeless devotional. Whether you choose to do each of the activities or not, just truly pondering and praying will bring you closer to God’s peace in your life. No, your problems won’t disappear like magic. That is not how this works. But in taking the scriptures to heart, you will develop surer footing emotionally and spiritually.
*I have received a complimentary copy of this book for the purpose of giving a review. However, I have also purchased another one for a friend to share the journey.
