Walking in Love

God is really trying to bring home a point to me today I think. Today’s Joyce Meyer devotional focused on 1 John 4:18:

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.”

Ok, this is not a new verse to me. I’ve heard it many times, along with other quotes from this same chapter about loving your brother. A friend from church posted about sharing LOVE with everyone today as being one of her “thanks” on her list. So why is this SUCH a hard concept for me? It slips my mind the minute someone cuts me off in traffic, honks at me (or someone else and I take it too personally), or says a less than kind word.  I’m too quick to reply with less than kind words myself. But if I truly have God’s word engraved on my heart, why do I respond this way instead of the way He wants me to?

Musing over this, I search. I find Ann Voskamp’s post for today about SHELTER. The shelter of prayer.  For the next 4 weeks, her suggestion for posts on Walk with Him Wednesdays  will focus on the spiritual practice of love.

So, my first step in making a NEW practice is to STOP. Stop worrying. Stop arguing. Stop responding in anger. To pray–more often, more focused, more willingly,  more honestly.

May you be blessed in your day.

“The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.” Revelation 22:21, KJV
